Gheorghiu: è il mio periodo «zen»
Posted on 2:02 PM by Unknown
Il Giornale published today an article/interview with Angela Gheorghiu. Mrs Franini calls her "la tigre del palcoscenico" (the tigress of the stage). An unsuccessful attempt to be original...
In brief, the article speaks of La Boheme at La Scala, future plans including Manon Lescaut at San Francisco Opera in 2013 and peace of mind: Ho imparato qualcosa, nel corso degli anni. Ho capito che mi fa bene essere in armonia con il mondo. Dopo vent'anni di carriera credo di aver dimostrato qualcosa, e ciò mi dà un'ulteriore tranquillità
The article is in Italian. Bing will help you reading.

Tenor change for La Rondine at ROH
Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown
Bye bye V, hello C!
Royal Opera House made the change official. The American tenor Charles Castronovo will replace Vittorio Grigolo for all his scheduled La rondine performances and will sing the role of Ruggero Lastouc on 5, 8, 11, 14 and 17 July. For the same performances Angela Gheorghiu will be Magda de Civry.
Better? Worse? We have to go there and see, haven't we?
Booking for La rondine opens on 13 March for Friends of Covent Garden and 9 April for the General Public.

Performers included Angela Gheorghiu, Kiri Te Kanawa, Julian Bliss, Ashley Wass, Zenaida Yanowsky, Roberto Bolle, Thomas Allen, Mstislav Rostropovich and Roberto Alagna.
Angela Gheorghiu sings Vissi d'arte from Puccini's Tosca and later on Brindisi from La Traviata together with Roberto Alagna.

Tosca, my love
Posted on 2:14 PM by Unknown
Grand Cinema Digiplex in Bucharest screened Tosca tonight, the 2011 ROH production starring Angela Gheorghiu, Jonas Kaufmann and Bryn Terfel.
Promotional flyer, an A4 printed program on each seat, smiling people inviting us in, comfort, huge screen, perfect image and sound, around 100 people in the theater. It was perfect!
It's impressive to be able to watch the opera from so close. In the venue you never get that close to the stage so part of the movements, sights, details of the sets and costumes can't be noticed. In cinema, you have close ups. So many emotions, characters so well outlined, amazing voices. Tosca remains my favorite opera, from the first to last note. I could watch it over and over and over again. And I always think it ends too soon... Recondita armonia...Te deum...Orsu, Tosca, parlate...Vittoria...Vissi d'arte... Lucevan le stelle, the jump... pufffff.... finished :(
I'm happy. It was a joy to see Tosca again, not to mention that it was brain healing after a hard day's work. Tomorrow if you want to talk to me just look up. I salute you from my white, fluffy operatic cloud.

Don Carlo. More than a like
Posted on 2:28 PM by Unknown
You'd probably ask why I chose this as a weekend post.
Because I attended this Don Carlo performance a week ago. And if I close my eyes and concentrate I can still hear Dio, che nel alma infondere or O Carlo, ascolta.
Because it was my first Simon Keenlyside amazing, touching experience and this man's voice is coming from another world. His aria Io morrò, ma lieto in core was... was... indescribably beautiful. I was pretty far away from the stage but his voice in pianissimo touched my heart. Sighhhh

che potei così serbar for I have given Spain
alla Spagna un salvatore! a saviour!
Ah! di me non ti scordar! Ah! don't forget me!
Regnare tu dovevi, You had to rule,
ed io morir per te. And I had to die for you.
Because Rene Pape was a true King, both in voice and acting. Both god and human being.
Because of Krassimira Stoyanova's crystal clear voice portraying Elisabeta, a voice that I loved from the first moment I listened to live, back in 2009, in Luisa Miller.
Because of the powerful sound of the Staatsoper orchestra supporting each voice.
Because of the short musical motif accompaning Don Carlo and Posa almost each time they got on stage.
Three unbelievable voices that make me say again that opera is a glorious addiction! When I left the opera house I knew I wanted to see this again. And I will.
Hint: Don Carlo will be performed in May 2013 at Royal Opera House - Jonas Kaufmann (Don Carlos), Anja Harteros (Elizabeth of Valois), Mariusz Kwiecien (Rodrigo, Marquis of Posa), Christine Rice (Princess Eboli), Ferruccio Furlanetto (Philip II)
And now some listening
Don Carlo at ROH, 2008, act IV - Simon Keenlyside (Posa)/Rolando Villazon (Don Carlo) - Che parli tu di morte...O Carlo, ascolta
Don Carlo at ROH, 2009, act II - Simon Keenlyside (Posa)/Jonas Kaufmann (Don Carlo) - Che parli tu di morte...O Carlo, ascolta
Have a marvelous weekend, wherever you are!

Angela Gheorghiu meeting the Korean fans, VIDEO
Posted on 11:21 AM by Unknown
Short meeting, shaky video. This was taken after the performance of La Boheme. It seems that the storm went away and everything went well. There's another performance tomorrow, September 2. Waiting for photos!
